Somehow, our hobby got incredibly challenging. Frustrating, even.

True, discovering new music has never been easier. But finding music you'll genuinely love... that's never been harder.

Millions of albums, new and old, are available to us within seconds, yet most of us end up hearing the same recommendations.

And it makes sense. After all...

• Streaming services tend to recommend more of what we've already played.
• Not to mention that their algorithms optimise for engagement, not to help you discover a forgotten gem.
• AI can produce endless lists of albums in any category. But it can't tell you which ones are actually worth listening.
• Major music magazines tend to focus on covering mainstream releases.
• And forums or Reddit present you with plenty of choice, but often without any context why a particular album is worth your time.

I've been growing unsatisfied with this for years. And actually, that growing frustration brought back memories about how we used to discover music in the old days - usually through recommendations from someone whose taste matched ours, who'd done the listening, and could explain what music is truly worth hearing.

I loved that. I remember getting my favorite music magazine, flipping to the last page, where my favorite critic had a column, and reading about the albums that caught his ear, learning some interesting facts about them, and getting excited about a particular record so much that I'd rush to my local record store to get it.

I truly miss that. I appreciate all that we have now: The easy access to all the music we want, the sound quality (I grew up listening to cassettes... If you know, you know...), and no longer dealing with stores that more often than not never heard of a record I truly wanted to hear.

But I miss that trust. The connection. The feeling how reading someone's thoughts about a particular album would set my heart on fire...

And eventually, I realized that I'd love a music publication like from the old days. One built on curiosity, exploring music, listening, and sharing the discoveries that are genuinely worth your time.

A publication that values thoughtful music journalism over the endless race for attention and ad views.

I am hoping that TrueResAudio will become that publication for you.
